A Call To Peace

Nicholas Buc - Composer

100 voices — 100 years of searching for peace

The Heidelberg Choral Society, with Orchestra and soloists conducted by Peter Bandy, present two major works reflecting on humanity’s ongoing search for peace despite the passing of one hundred years since the events of the First World War Battle of the Somme and fifty years since the pivotal battle of Long Tan in Vietnam.

The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace, premiered in London in 2000, is one of Karl Jenkins’ most popular works, and is among the most performed works by a living composer. The program also includes the premiere performance of a work commissioned especially for this concert, When the Bugle Calls by Nicholas Buc.

This concert, with an associated photographic exhibition of images of the Somme, will be a significant reminder that our search for peace continues, and is a call to the whole world.

Nicholas Buc teams up with Queensland Symphony Orchestras to perform Movie Masterpieces on the Gold Coast. It’s hard to imagine great movies without their equally great soundtracks. So expressive, so vital to the meaning of the movie, is it any wonder that concert composers have always been drawn to writing with stop-watch in hand and silent rushes on the screen before them? Net result? Melodies so sublime, and orchestral showpieces so exhilarating, that they define the music of our times.
