Eric Bogle’s And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda has come to be one of Australia's most popular anthems concerning the futility of war. By using the story of a young Australian soldier maimed at the Battle of Gallipoli during WWI, the song was meant to be an anti-Vietnam War protest, yet ironically, it was the Vietnam veterans who would adopt it more than any other vets. Today, in a time when the spirit of ANZAC Day is greater than ever, the song serves as a moving tribute to soldiers around the world.
